Job Summary

A Shuttering Carpenter, also known as a Formwork Carpenter, is responsible for constructing molds, forms, and frameworks for concrete structures. This role involves interpreting construction plans, assembling formwork, and ensuring the accuracy and stability of structures during the concrete pouring process.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:


Formwork Construction:



  1. Interpret construction drawings and blueprints to understand formwork requirements.

  2. Construct molds and forms for concrete structures using various materials, such as wood, metal, and engineered formwork systems.


Measurement and Layout:



  1. Accurately measure and mark cutting lines on materials, ensuring precision in formwork construction.

  2. Set up and align formwork components according to specifications and project requirements.


Installation and Stripping:



  1. Install formwork on construction sites, ensuring stability and proper alignment.

  2. Strip and remove formwork after concrete has cured, taking care not to damage the structure.


Material Handling:



  1. Cut, shape, and assemble materials for formwork, including plywood, timber, and steel.

  2. Transport and handle formwork materials and components safely.


Safety Compliance:



  1. Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines on construction sites.

  2. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices to prevent accidents.


Collaboration with Construction Team:



  1. Work closely with other construction personnel, including concrete finishers, steel fixers, and other carpenters.

  2. Communicate effectively with supervisors and project managers to coordinate formwork activities.


Quality Control:



  1. Inspect formwork for quality and accuracy before concrete pouring.

  2. Make adjustments and repairs to formwork as needed to ensure the integrity of the structure.


Cleanup and Maintenance:



  1. Clean and maintain formwork tools and equipment.

  2. Ensure that formwork materials are properly stored and organized.
